Join the Laser, Optics and Holography WebRing!
Hi folks, I just wanted to encourage our visitors to join the LOH webring and share their own experiences. I have had a few submissions recently but they have failed to follow the rules. The LOH ring is a great way to build visits to your website and share your wealth of knowledge but you MUST have the LOH ring content included in the page you link to. If you don’t have the LOH navigation somewhere on your target page I have to deny the site, but I will send you a friendly message to change it.
By no means do I let the site do automatic-approvals. I have been working with some of our commercial members to get them to put in LOH linksets into their content page. While we don’t allow commercial sites on the LOH webring anymore, some of these folks were grandfathered in from the previous ownership. Commercial sites can expect to be slowly phased out over time to allow room for hardcore laserist, optic and holography hobbyist sites. This ring is not a profit venture, and it is not designed to help others profit. The site is designed only to help others learn through the community experience.
As always, feel free to contact me. My email addy is sarlock@gmail.com.
Be well, take care! –JC
New Ring Website
I would like to welcome a new site to the ring. There’s quite a few private projects at the New Web Ring Member’s Site covering topics such as lasers, fusors, high voltage and the like. There appear to be a couple of marx powered linear discharge nitrogen laser designs as well as HeNe, argon ion, solid state and diode lasers. You can also view the page translated to English via translate.google.com by clicking on this link here.
Share Your Website with the World
Hi folks, I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated this site. I just wanted to remind everyone that the viewers to your website may come from many different countries. You can make your site more welcoming by embedding or adding a language translation tool right into your website. An example of this is the Google Translation Tool. If you click on that link, you will be taken to a page which generates code you can insert into your website. Additionally if you encounter pages which you can not understand, you can use Google’s page translator by going to http://translate.google.com/.
While these tools are not perfect, they do provide good enough translation to get the concept and ideas in a persons writing.
Member Focus – Week of July 26, 2009
I wanted to take some time to discuss member’s websites in the LOH Ring community. I’m going to be doing this once a week to help draw attention to everyone’s sites, information and creations.
The first site which stands out to me is DaVinci’s World, the owner of this site has a great diversity of interest and provides a shed load of information that will be useful to many people, or at the least very informative. Be forewarned you may wish to take some advanced mathematics classes first though! I joke, somewhat, but I think this site is a must see for all of our visitors.
I recently spoke with the creator of the site and he is working on adding and finishing more articles, and additionally he will be moving his LOH WebRing link to a more pertinent page, I hope it’s that page. Please take the time to explore his light directory, investigate and learn. Also when you’re done with that, check out his main site as well, it is quite interesting and informative on other subjects.
The site covers a LOT of topics, some of the articles are still in progress, but a large number of them are active. They cover such topics as: Optics Tutorials, Light Spectrum, Adaptive Optics Tutorials, Gaussian Optics, Laser Tutorials, Fiber Optics, Tools and Spreadsheets for Electro-optics design, Indexed Optics Links, Spectral Irradiance, Spectral Reflectance and Advanced topics including Phase Diversity, Fourier Optics, Nonlinear optics and Milti-frame Blind Deconvolution (I have no idea what that last one is, I’ll have to read up on it!)
It’s great to have such intelligent and creative people on the WebRing and I look forward to sharing everyone’s pages and creations here on the LOH Hub Site.
Please visit DaVinci’s World – Light
and the main site at DaVinci’s World

Geocities Shutdown Date Oct 26, 2009
Yahoo has set a date for shutting down Geocities, they have selected Oct 26th, 2009. If your Laser, Optics and Holography website is currently on Geocities, I recommend saving all your hard work and moving it to a different hosting provider. WebRing.com is offering free hosting services to it’s members, and if you’re really in a bind or their hosting will not work for you, you can contact me, ‘jcaywood’ or the ‘ring manager’, through the WebRing messaging system or this website for additional solutions.
Please remember when you move your Geocities site, you will have to update your WebRing information on WebRing.com to point to your new Address/URL.
New Hub Site for Laser, Optics and Holography Webring
This is the new hub site for the Laser, Optics and Holography WebRing, it is currently under construction and will take time to fine tune. The actual design may be adjusted several times for visual appearance, interaction and functionality.
The purpose of this site is to promote the LOH Ring and provide member and new-member resources. Members of the LOH ring will be allowed to create accounts on this site and post information about new material on their site, or general laser news information. Please remember the primary goal is to promote the ring and its membership.
If you have any questions please contact me or leave a comment to this posting. All comments to this site are filtered by administration to limit abuse of the system by spammers so they may take a little bit of time to appear.
